POSITION OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main objective of the Sterile Processing department is to support direct patient care by guaranteeing that the Operating Room personnel receive accurate, fully operational, and sterile surgical instruments promptly, all while adhering to the highest standards of service excellence.
Instrument Technicians are required to efficiently and accurately execute the four essential departmental tasks: decontamination, preparation and packaging, sterilization, and distribution.
The approach an Instrument Technician takes in fulfilling these responsibilities should be marked by creativity, persistence, respectfulness, and professionalism.
Technicians are expected to cultivate and uphold a thorough understanding of the standards and protocols related to the preparation, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments.
Compliance with University Health and departmental policies is mandatory.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent experience is necessary.
National certification from the International Association of Healthcare Service Materiel Management as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) must be obtained within one year of employment.
Prior experience within a University Health environment is preferred.
