Job Summary

The Instrument Technician role at University Health is a critical position that requires a high level of expertise and attention to detail. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the Operating Room staff has access to correct, fully functional, sterile surgical instrumentation in a timely manner. This involves performing the four basic departmental functions (decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch) with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Decontamination: Remove all debris and contaminants from surgical instruments.
  • Prep and Pack: Prepare and package instruments for sterilization.
  • Sterilization: Ensure instruments are properly sterilized and ready for use.
  • Dispatch: Deliver instruments to the Operating Room staff in a timely manner.

Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent experience is required. National certification through the International Association of Healthcare Service Material Management as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required within one (1) year from the date of hire. Experience within University Health is preferred.
