POSITION OVERVIEW

The Critical Care Registered Nurse is responsible for the independent planning, execution, and assessment of nursing care in critical patient scenarios, adhering to established standards of care, policies, and procedures. This role involves delivering direct nursing services to patients, while also taking on educational and leadership roles. Active participation in collaborative decision-making, unit committees, and quality enhancement initiatives is expected. Minimal supervision is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulates a care plan that incorporates strategies to achieve desired health outcomes.
  • Implements nursing interventions and medical care plans as appropriate.
  • Coordinates the delivery of patient care.
  • Utilizes patient education to enhance health and safety.
  • Assesses progress towards health outcomes.
  • Maintains ethical nursing practices.
  • Acquires knowledge and skills that reflect contemporary nursing practices.
  • Integrates evidence-based research into nursing practice.
  • Communicates effectively across all areas of nursing practice.
  • Exhibits leadership within the professional nursing environment.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, and the inter-professional team in nursing practice.
  • Employs appropriate resources to deliver nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially sound.
  • Practices in a manner that promotes environmental safety and health.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Critical Care experience preferred for candidates not entering a fellowship program.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in critical care nursing is required.
  • Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the State of Florida.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification is required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

FOR NEW GRADUATES AND CANDIDATES WITHOUT CRITICAL CARE EXPERIENCE

  • New graduate nurses will be considered for the fellowship program.
  • A BSN is preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the State of Florida.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • ALS certification will be obtained during the fellowship program.
  • A Fellowship agreement will be required, including a 2-year employment commitment in Critical Care after completing the training.

Intermediate computer skills are necessary, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
