Job Title: Preschool Lead Teacher

At the YMCA of Central Ohio, we believe that the early years of a child's life are crucial for their development and growth. As a Preschool Lead Teacher, you will play a vital role in shaping the minds of our young learners and helping them reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead by Example: Demonstrate a cause-driven leadership style and serve as a role model for other staff members and children in promoting healthy living practices and desired staff behaviors.
  2. Classroom Preparation: Ensure a safe and engaging learning environment by arranging and maintaining the classroom space, keeping it clean and organized, and conducting regular assessments to meet the needs of our children.
  3. Communication and Relationships: Build strong relationships with children, parents, and staff through effective communication and professionalism.
  4. Child Development and Assessment: Assess each child's developmental needs and establish individual goals, documenting progress and using this information to inform curriculum planning and assessment.
  5. Lesson Planning and Implementation: Develop and implement lesson plans that reflect a well-balanced and varied program, incorporating Ohio, SUTQ, NAEYC, and grant standards.
  6. Behavior Management and Support: Provide clear expectations, positive reinforcement, and firm limits to promote positive behavior and support the social, emotional, and cognitive development of our children.
  7. Compliance and Record-Keeping: Ensure the center's compliance with YMCA, ODJFS licensing, SUTQ, grant, and NAEYC requirements, maintaining accurate records and entering data into relevant systems in a timely manner.
  8. Team Collaboration and Professional Development: Contribute to staff projects, communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues, and participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  9. Attendance and Absence Procedures: Maintain prompt attendance, follow procedures for absences, and provide guidance and lesson plans for colleagues in your absence.
  10. Additional Responsibilities: Assist in the training of other staff members, complete duties as required by the Child and Adult Care Food program, and work assigned shifts to ensure teacher-child ratios are met.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in child development, elementary education, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Previous experience in an early care and education setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Career Pathway Level as determined by Program's SUTQ requirements.
  • Medical statement as required by ODJFS standards.
  • Training certifications in first aid, communicable diseases, child abuse recognition & prevention required by ODJFS.
  • Passionate belief in the Y's cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people, and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
