Job Overview

A Patient Care Technician (PCT) is responsible for delivering compassionate care to patients in a clinical environment. This role encompasses support for individuals with both acute and chronic health conditions.

Position Highlights:

  • Department: The role involves working in both the Intensive Care Unit and Neurocritical Care Unit, with responsibilities split evenly between the two.
  • Additional Information: Shift differentials are provided for evening, night, and weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Address patient care needs by responding to call lights, assisting with personal hygiene, monitoring vital signs, and effectively communicating with the healthcare team.
  2. Conduct 12-lead EKGs as per training and competency.
  3. Apply and document restraints as instructed by nursing staff or physicians.
  4. Perform wound care, stoma care, and assist with specimen collection.
  5. Manage equipment and tube care, including JPs, hemovacs, nasogastric tubes, and Foley catheter removal.
  6. Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring safe handling practices.
  7. Maintain inventory of office and patient care supplies.
  8. Serve as unit secretary, managing patient charts, phone calls, daily assignments, and providing accurate patient information to the interdisciplinary team.
  9. Support physicians and RNs as needed.
  10. Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Healthcare and adhere to service behavior standards.
  11. Follow infection prevention protocols.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.
  13. May be required to float to other departments based on operational needs.
  14. May be placed on-call during scheduled shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the applicable state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire or within 60 days of hire with prior approval.

Preferred:

  • At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting.

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties effectively. This includes gathering patient data, performing care tasks, and providing personal assistance with hygiene, nutrition, and mobility. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must be able to see and read information, operate medical equipment, and communicate effectively with patients and team members. This role requires manual dexterity for handling equipment, lifting patients, and navigating busy clinical environments.
