Job Overview
A Patient Care Technician is responsible for delivering essential care to patients within an intensive care environment. This role encompasses support for individuals with both acute and chronic health conditions.
Position Highlights:
- Benefits Eligible: Yes; includes Medical, Dental, Vision, and Education Assistance.
- Shift Availability: Part-time day and night shifts, with potential for full-time and PRN roles, including some weekend and holiday shifts.
- Department: Intensive Care and Neurocritical Care, with responsibilities split evenly between both units.
- Additional Information: Shift differentials available for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Address patient care requirements by responding to call lights, assisting with personal hygiene, monitoring vital signs, and effectively communicating with the healthcare team.
- Conduct 12-lead EKGs as per training and competency.
- Apply and document restraints as instructed by the Registered Nurse or physician.
- Perform wound care, stoma care, and collect specimens.
- Manage equipment and tube care, including JPs, hemovacs, nasogastric tubes, and Foley catheter removal.
- Assist with patient transfers, admissions, and discharges while adhering to safe patient handling principles.
- Order and maintain necessary supplies for patient care.
- Fulfill the duties of a unit secretary, including maintaining patient records, responding to inquiries, and ensuring accurate communication with the interdisciplinary team.
- Support physicians and RNs as required.
- Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Healthcare while adhering to service behavior standards.
- Follow infection prevention protocols diligently.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- May be required to assist in other departments based on operational needs.
- Potential to be placed on-call during scheduled shifts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- Completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program.
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
Preferred:
- At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties effectively. The qualifications must reflect the necessary knowledge, skills, education, training, licensure, and experience required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Candidates should possess technical skills in gathering patient data and performing care tasks, including vital signs and specimen collection. A willingness to assist with personal hygiene and other treatments is essential. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. Regular attendance during scheduled shifts is mandatory, and the ability to work nights and weekends may be necessary for certain positions.
Physical Requirements:
Employees must be able to see and read information, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and communicate effectively with patients and care providers. Manual dexterity is necessary for handling delicate equipment and frequent computer use. The role requires lifting and transferring patients, bending to retrieve supplies, and navigating busy environments. Standing for extended periods may also be required.
