Description

This entry-level role involves manual and semi-skilled tasks in the upkeep, servicing, and repair of diesel and gasoline engine-operated machinery. Under the supervision of the Fleet Services Manager or Lead Mechanic, a Vehicle Maintenance Specialist in the Fleet Services Division executes a range of manual and semi-skilled responsibilities related to the maintenance, servicing, and minor repairs of internal combustion machinery. The tasks include everything from routine servicing to assisting in the repair and overhaul of power equipment, light and heavy trucks, construction machinery, and automobiles. More complex assignments are carried out under the mentorship of a skilled mechanic.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct preventive maintenance services for all departmental vehicles

- Manage tire care and replacement for all vehicles

- Assist in the repair and maintenance of small engine equipment

Qualifications

A Vehicle Maintenance Specialist must be prepared to work nights, weekends, overtime, and at unusual hours when emergency situations necessitate such duties. This position demands a strong work ethic, integrity, accountability, emotional intelligence, and initiative to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the role.

Education, Training, and Experience:

- Associate's degree from an accredited program in automotive mechanics OR

- High school diploma/GED AND a minimum of two years of recent paid work experience in automotive or heavy truck maintenance and repair.

- Must meet City guidelines for operating vehicles.

Licenses and Certificates:

- Valid Wisconsin Driver's license and acceptable driving record per City policy.

- Ability to obtain Class B,C Commercial Driver License with Tanker Endorsement within 12 months of hire.

- Capability to operate all types of City equipment and vehicles; on-the-job training will be provided by the City.

- Forklift certification within six (6) months of appointment; training and certification will be provided by the City.
