Job Summary

The Volvo Car Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Controls Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Maintenance Engineering team, you will be responsible for ensuring the controls systems in our Final Assembly shop meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and integrate control systems for customer applications and processes
  • Program PLCs and HMIs, and design network systems
  • Commission and support control systems, and provide internal/external training
  • Ensure incoming equipment meets Volvo Standard
  • Continuously improve and optimize current running equipment
  • Participate in equipment projects, including cost estimation, planning, and administration
  • Support running production with problem analysis and troubleshooting
  • Lead/participate in standardization and technical networks within the area of expertise
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a controls-related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent)
  • 5+ years of Controls Engineering/PLC Programming experience
  • 3+ years of experience with Siemens PLC/HMI Programming
  • Prior experience programming PLCs/HMIs within customer-defined/automotive OEM standards and templates
  • Ability to technically lead up to 3 specialists, 3 engineers, 12 technicians
  • Ability to supervise the progress of 3 or more specialists, engineers, technicians, and designers
Preferred Qualifications
  • 15+ years of applicable experience in an industrial environment that includes quoting, design, electrical build, debug, startup, and production-readying of industrial controls equipment
  • Extensive experience with manufacturing systems, equipment installation and commissioning
  • Project Management skills are a plus
  • Ability to understand basic electrical drawings and electrical theory preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot electromechanical equipment, PLC and Drive Frequency systems, vision systems, and robotic equipment
  • Experience with industrial ethernet is a plus
  • Skills in SCADA, AutoCAD, and CATIA are a plus
