Job Overview

Position Title: Service Technician

Department: Service

Reports To: Service Manager

Objective: The Service Technician is tasked with executing vehicle repairs and maintenance tasks as designated, adhering to dealership and manufacturer standards. This role also includes supervising any apprentice technicians assigned.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive and review repair orders from the dispatcher and proceed to the designated work area.
  • Carry out the work specified on the repair order with precision and efficiency, following dealership and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Diagnose the source of any issues and perform necessary repairs.
  • Coordinate with the parts department to procure required components.
  • Preserve and label parts if the service is under warranty or at the customer's request.
  • Inspect the vehicle to identify any additional safety or service needs.
  • Promptly inform the service advisor of any further work required, unnecessary tasks, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised timeframe.
  • Document all work performed accurately.
  • Conduct road tests on vehicles when necessary or refer to the designated test technician, ensuring customer vehicles are not used for personal purposes.
  • Oversee the work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
  • Participate in factory-sponsored training sessions.
  • Stay updated on factory technical bulletins.
  • Ensure customer vehicles are maintained in a clean condition.
  • Maintain a tidy work area and account for all dealership-owned tools consistently.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly those concerning hazardous waste disposal.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to pass a drug screening.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Capacity to read and understand instructions and information.
  • ASE certification is preferred.
  • General mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Manual dexterity and good judgment.
