Position Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of both direct and indirect clinical care for patients. The LPN will effectively collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered care and advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their rights and beliefs are respected.

Key Responsibilities

  • The LPN must hold a valid license from the West Virginia State Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses, with no disciplinary actions on record. West Virginia participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Experience of at least one year in acute psychiatric care is required, along with a solid understanding of mental health concepts and treatment approaches.
Core Duties

  • Assist nursing and medical staff in delivering direct patient care, including administering medications, providing medical treatments, and participating in care planning.
  • Conduct patient assessments, provide behavioral health support, and educate patients while referring complex cases to appropriate facilities.
  • Document patient information accurately in electronic medical records, adhering to facility policies and procedures.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure the emotional and physical comfort of patients.
  • Respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians regarding patient care needs.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene.
  • Testify in court or commitment hearings when necessary, in coordination with psychiatric physicians.
Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience in direct patient care as a licensed practical nurse.
  • Experience in correctional healthcare, residential care, hospitals, outpatient clinics, or similar environments.
  • Experience with both pediatric and adult patient populations.
Education and Certification Requirements

  • Must be licensed by the West Virginia State Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Education must be from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved organization is required.
Physical Requirements

  • Work is typically performed in an office environment.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • May involve bending, stooping, and lifting up to 15 lbs.
