Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Adult Psychiatric Nurse to join our team at Pinewood Springs, a joint venture mental health and wellness hospital operated by HCA Healthcare's Tristar Health and Maury Regional Medical Center. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient care and contribute to a supportive and therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care, demonstrating knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment, and care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served.
  • Work closely with the supervising RN to deliver the nursing process effectively, observing, recording, reporting, and assisting in the nursing plan of care.
  • Assure suicide, elopement, and other precautions are conducted according to need/order identified, maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Conduct or delegate searches of patients for contraband upon admission and when need is indicated, giving direct care in accordance with nursing care plans as developed by RN.
  • Document patient data, nursing interventions, patient response, effectiveness, and complications, identifying potential nursing problems/changes in patient status and informing appropriate team members.
  • Interact with patients and families to assist RN in developing and implementing an individualized plan of care for the patient, assisting in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient discharge plan.
  • Adequately assess and reassess pain, utilizing appropriate pain management techniques, educating the patient and family regarding pain management and the patient/family role in medication safety.
  • Assist RN in implementing teaching plans based upon patients identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, providing direct patient care and adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results, demonstrating knowledge of monitoring specific to patient population and intervening as indicated.
  • Implement and document timely interventions appropriate to patient needs, maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and medication effects based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Follow the five medication rights to reduce the potential for medication error, reassessing patients systematically to identify outcomes of care and identifying needs that require intervention, documenting findings.
  • Evaluate patient's response to treatment/care and assist RN in revising plan of care, working collaboratively with SSRs to assure appropriate utilization of services and to plan for post-discharge needs, while keeping RN informed.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity, identifying and addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Acknowledge and implement physician orders in a timely manner, assisting physicians with procedures specific to department, reporting on all incidents or unusual events to the RN prior to end of shift, and completing occurrence reports as directed.
  • Provide shift reports that reflect the patient's status, progress, and needs, supporting a restraint-free environment utilizing preventative measures and de-escalation skills/techniques.
Requirements
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN).
