Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs and learning goals, considering their specific hearing loss and developmental stage.
  • Utilize a variety of communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL), auditory-verbal approaches, and assistive technology, to effectively teach and communicate with students.
  • Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, social skills, and self-advocacy skills, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience for students at all grade levels.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, administrators, and parents to create a comprehensive support system and inclusive learning environment for students with hearing impairments.
  • Assess students' educational needs and progress, monitoring their development and adapting instructional strategies as needed.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of students with hearing impairments, promoting awareness and understanding throughout the school community.
Requirements:
  • California State Teaching Credential in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education (Authorization or certification required).
  • Prior experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students in a school setting, preferably across a K-12 caseload, is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of other communication methods used by students with hearing impairments.
  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, deafness, and educational audiology.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students of all ages, parents, and school staff.
  • Ability to create engaging and accessible learning environments that cater to diverse learning styles.
