Job Title: Senior Network Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer to join our team at the City of St. Cloud, FL. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
  • Monitor network performance and ensure system availability and reliability
  • Monitor and maintain daily backups
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot network problems and outages
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
  • Provide support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain installation, operations, and configuration procedures
  • Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the city's security team
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Provide technical support after normal work hours when necessary
  • Mentor and train junior network engineering staff
  • Consistently provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to write reports and procedure manuals
  • Project lead for the planning and implementation of all Network IT Projects
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in network administration and engineering
  • Professional certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers
  • Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols
  • Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems
  • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced certifications in network security
  • Experience working in a government or public sector environment
  • Familiarity with cloud networking solutions and services
  • Familiarity with Cisco DNA and ISE
