Position Overview:

The Lead CNC Programmer will be responsible for developing numerical control programs to manage the contour path machining of metal components on automated machine tools. This role involves a variety of key responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reviewing drawings, sketches, and design specifications to determine dimensions and configurations for machining.
  • Establishing reference points and determining the direction of machine cutting paths.
  • Evaluating routings during the programming phase and refining processes to ensure optimal utilization of CNC machine tools.
  • Calculating angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlining the sequence of operations required for machining.
  • Creating CNC programs aligned with routed operations using appropriate software.
  • Developing setup documentation to complement written programs.
  • Modifying and refining programs as needed to correct errors or omissions.
  • Monitoring machine operations during trial runs to validate programmed instructions.
  • Collaborating with tool crib and/or Mechanical Engineering Technicians regarding tooling requirements.
  • Establishing and maintaining standard programming guidelines for processes and program creation, with a focus on quality.
  • Ensuring safety by mitigating hazards through sound engineering practices.
Qualifications:

5-10 years of relevant experience

High School Diploma or GED

5 years of trade school or equivalent experience

Proven experience in machining finish-grade components to stringent tolerances

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Judgment and Decision Making - Evaluating potential actions based on relative costs and benefits to select the most suitable option.
  • Production and Processing - Understanding of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for optimizing manufacturing and distribution.
  • Mathematics - Proficiency in basic arithmetic operations using various units of measure.
  • Equipment Selection - Identifying the appropriate tools and equipment necessary for specific tasks.
  • Design - Familiarity with design techniques, tools, and principles for producing precise technical plans and models.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints or instructions to determine operational methods or sequences.
  • Capability to set up manual machines and/or program CNC machines with supervision.
  • Critical Thinking - Utilizing logic and reasoning to assess the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches.
  • Active Listening - Fully engaging with others, understanding their points, and asking relevant questions without interrupting.
  • Reading Comprehension - Grasping written content in work-related documents.
