Radiology Scheduler Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Radiology Scheduler to join our team at APR Consulting, Inc. This is a contract position that requires a strong understanding of medical office procedures and medical terminology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct insurance eligibility and benefits verification, referral/authorization, and inform patients/guarantors of financial responsibility
  • Register patients, obtain copies of insurance cards, and process electronic registration, including verification of insurance and/or authorization for requested procedures
  • Provide clerical support to technologists, physicians, supervisors, and leadership, including compiling counts and maintaining data for analysis
  • Coordinate scheduling for various procedures in ultrasound, mammography, x-ray, and bone densitometry
  • Operate a telephone console to receive incoming messages, direct callers, and take messages
  • Request prior imaging studies from referring physicians and medical facilities
  • Process requests for records, reports, and imaging CDs for patients, physicians, and/or patients, distribute, mail, and/or fax reports and notices
  • Perform various clerical tasks, including copying, filing, faxing, typing, and opening mail
  • Respond to and resolve patient concerns as far as possible, referring unsolvable or significant concerns to the supervisor
Requirements:
  • Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma
  • HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience
  • Preferred experience as typically acquired in 2 years medical receptionist experience, preferably in a radiology setting
  • Working knowledge of medical office procedures and medical terminology preferred
  • Basic computer/keyboard skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team
Department Specific Experience:
  • Affiliate: Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Department: Medical Imaging, 0-2 years experience, minimum 6 months work experience in a radiology department required
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, discounts, and percent
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
