About the Job:

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an experienced Gastroenterologist to join our team at the Amarillo Health Care System. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our nation's veterans.

Scope of Practice:

As a Gastroenterologist with the VA Amarillo Health Care System, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, including evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment plans. You will also have opportunities to participate in educational activities, such as teaching and mentoring residents and trainees.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates patients by examining thoroughly and interpreting clinical data to determine diagnosis and clinical status.
  • Prescribes appropriate and timely treatment, applies indicated therapeutic procedures, and recognizes changes in behavior, symptoms, signs, and other pertinent facts about the patient.
  • Develops and maintains rapport and gains the confidence of patients and relatives through competence and interpersonal skills.
  • Recognizes the need for consultation and utilizes facility or clinic specialty skills in diagnosis and treatment.
  • Keeps clear, accurate, and adequate clinical records and completes progress notes, orders daily.
  • Participates in educational activities, such as teaching and mentoring residents and trainees.

Education and Qualifications:

A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school.

Salary and Benefits:

The estimated annual salary for this position is approximately $250,000, based on national averages for Gastroenterologists in the United States.
