Bakery Department Supervisor Job Description

As a Bakery Department Supervisor at Whole Foods Market, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our bakery team. Your primary responsibility will be to supervise and delegate tasks to bakery team members, ensuring that all cases and shelves are clean, well-stocked, and properly rotated.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and Delegate Tasks: Supervise and delegate tasks to bakery team members, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Train and Develop Team Members: Work with the bakery trainer to train team members in a manner that builds and sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover.
  • Assist with Training: Assist in training of new team members, utilizing learning checklists and training materials.
  • Maintain a Clean and Organized Department: Keep all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked, and properly rotated.
  • Open and Close Department: Open and close the department according to established procedures.
  • Ensure Breaks are Given: Ensure that all necessary breaks are given to team members.
  • Communicate with Team Leader: Communicate team concerns to the team leader and associate team leader.
  • Set and Achieve Retail Execution Standards: Set and achieve the highest standards of retail execution.
  • Foster a Positive Team Environment: Foster and encourage a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Maintain awareness of customer flows and needs and direct team members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers; respond promptly to customer needs and questions.
  • Develop and Mentor Team Members: Select, train, develop, mentor, motivate, and counsel team members in a manner that sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover.
  • Provide Performance Evaluations: Provide timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations.
  • Communicate Company Vision and Goals: Consistently communicate and model WFM vision and goals.
Requirements:
  • Extensive Knowledge of Bakery Team Procedures: Extensive knowledge of bakery team procedures and policies.
  • Strong Organizational and Time Management Skills: Strong demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and Customer Service Skills: Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills.
  • Ability to Teach and Train: Capable of teaching others in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Thorough Product Knowledge: Thorough product knowledge.
  • Advanced Knowledge of Regulatory and Safety Policies: Advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures.
  • Mathematical Skills: Proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance, monitoring profitability, and managing inventory.
  • Decision-Making and Leadership Skills: Demonstrated decision-making ability, leadership skills, and ability to prioritize and delegate.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications.
Experience:
  • 12+ Months Retail Experience: 12+ months retail experience.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Standing/Walking: In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
  • Hand Use: Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Motions: Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
  • Exposure to Chemicals: Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Temperature Exposure: Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Wet and Dry Conditions: Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
  • Flexible Schedule: Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Use of Tools and Equipment: Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
  • Ladder Use: May require use of ladders.
