Key Responsibilities- Campus Safety and Security Operations
- Provide direct oversight of campus safety and security operations, including patrols and supervision of security staff.
- Develop and implement safety and security plans to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Train security staff on college protocols, policies, and procedures to ensure a positive and safe campus environment.
- Campus Safety and Security Planning
- Design and carry out planning activities related to campus safety and security operations, including developing safety plans and video monitoring systems.
- Evaluate existing safety and security programs and make recommendations for improvement.
- Work with the Director of Human Resources and the Safety Committee to implement changes and improvements.
- Reporting and Emergency Management
- Handle safety and security issues that may arise on a daily basis, including investigating incidents and developing action plans to prevent future occurrences.
- Represent the College on Emergency Management committees and work with local law enforcement and emergency agencies to ensure a coordinated response to emergencies.
- Develop contingency plans for emergency situations and establish relationships with local emergency agencies.
- Safety and Security Training
- Develop and administer safety and security training to educate employees and students on safety protocols and procedures.
- Ensure all employees know what to do and where to go in the event of an emergency.
- A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency.
- A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required law enforcement experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- NETC Preferred Requirements: A bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field and two years of work experience in law enforcement, to include one year in a supervisory capacity; or an associate's degree and four years of work experience in law enforcement to include one year in a supervisory capacity.
- Knowledge of proper law enforcement officer behavior and role.
- Knowledge of modern law enforcement techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of how to collect and preserve evidence.
- Knowledge of the legal rights of both suspects and law enforcement personnel.
- Knowledge of the laws one is responsible for enforcing.
- Knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of other law enforcement agencies.
- Skill in the operation of law enforcement vehicles, weapons, and communications equipment.
- Ability to correctly evaluate situations and make good decisions.
- Ability to effectively interview witnesses and suspects.
- Ability to represent the agency effectively in dealings with the public.
- Ability to read and comprehend written materials.
- Ability to write clearly and effectively.
- Ability to plan, organize, and review work activities.
- Ability to effectively supervise subordinates.
