Position Overview

The Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer will collaborate with design teams to develop exceptional designs for both new and existing aviation and federal projects. This role involves working closely with the design team throughout the Engineering/Design, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phases, ensuring that I&C plans are tailored to meet budgetary constraints, timelines, engineering standards, and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate instrumentation engineering/design deliverables, including Instrument Index, Instrument Data Sheets, Instrument Installation Details, Instrument Location Plans, Wiring Diagrams, and Loop Diagrams.
  • Create control systems (DCS and/or PLC) and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) Data Sheets.
  • Develop controls design deliverables, such as I/O lists, Process Control Narratives, Graphic Sketches, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and Alarm Rationalization, while managing third-party control system suppliers to ensure compliance with design requirements, including participation in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Draft I&C purchase specifications, evaluate bids, provide technical recommendations, and oversee the overall procurement process, including the review of I&C packages and vendor documentation.
  • Design P&ID's for various projects.
  • Conduct process measurements, including temperature, pressure, flow, level, analyzers, and control valves, applying knowledge of various technologies to select suitable I&C applications.
  • Perform preliminary sizing calculations for instruments such as orifice plates, control valves, relief valves, and thermowells.
  • Create level sketches in collaboration with multiple departments.
  • Apply knowledge of commonly used I&C engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the engineering services sector.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
  • Ensure adherence to company and project site safety policies.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited program.
  • A Master's degree in the aforementioned engineering disciplines may substitute for one year of experience.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in consulting.
  • Successful completion of the FE or EIT exam is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment, demonstrating critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Experienced in Smart Plant instrumentation (SPI) for the development of instrument datasheets.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
