Full-Time Veterinary Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Full-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Wilkes County Veterinary Services. As a vital member of our veterinary practice, you will work closely with veterinarians and veterinary technicians to provide high-quality care to our animal patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Animal Care: Assist in the examination and treatment of animals by restraining them safely and providing comfort.
  • Patient Monitoring: Observe and record vital signs, behavior, and physical condition of animals, reporting any changes to the veterinary team.
  • Procedural Assistance: Support veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is prepared and sterile.
  • Laboratory Work: Collect and prepare laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces) for analysis and perform basic laboratory tests as needed.
  • Client Interaction: Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing information on treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by veterinarians and provide education to clients on proper administration.
  • Facility Maintenance: Ensure cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, exam rooms, and kennels, adhering to sanitation protocols.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for each patient, including treatments, medications, and observations.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or in a related field is preferred but not mandatory. A passion for animal care is essential.
  • Animal Handling Skills: Strong ability to handle and restrain a variety of animals safely and compassionately.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with clients and team members.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, supporting veterinarians and technicians.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in medical records and treatment plans.
  • Physical Stamina: Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting animals and standing for extended periods.
