UPMC Health Plan is seeking an Agile Release Train Lead to help us continue our Business Agility transformation and goals.
The Agile Release Train Lead will lead an Agile Release Train (ART) team of teams through the preparation, facilitation, and delivery of our Program Increments (PIs).
Reporting to the Director of Business Agility, the Agile Release Train Lead is a critical role within the Health Plan's agile ways of working, anchored in relentless improvement, agility, design-thinking, and customer-centricity.
The Agile Release Train Lead will partner with Product Management, Architects, and ART leaders to leverage Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) processes, tools, and mechanisms in support of a successful roll-out of Business Agility best practices, events, and ceremonies for a single Agile Release Train.
The ideal candidate brings a positive attitude, sense of urgency, and a proven track-record of team building and lean product delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead ART ceremonies and events, such as Program Increment (PI) Planning, Programs Boards, System Demos, etc.

- Facilitate Lean Portfolio Management events and feasibility workshops.
- Foresee and call out risks/issues on schedule, dependencies, resource capacity, and scope from product teams. Work with product managers to understand and help communicate business priority clearly to engineering teams.
- Coordinate team dependencies within the same release train and external dependencies from other trains and teams. Assist with decision-making by facilitating feature and capability estimation by teams and the roll-up to epics, where necessary.
- Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices. Foster continuous improvement, along with acting as a binding agent that connects a team of teams.
- Drive relentless improvement via Inspect & Adapt workshops, assess the agility level of the ART and Solution Train, and help them improve velocity and accountability.
- Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets.
- Champion the use of KPIs and other objective measures across teams. Keep an objective perspective on issues and troubleshoot by applying agile principles.
