Accountant Job Description

Roanoke College is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our Accounting team. As an Accountant, you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely financial services to the College community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial support to students, parents, faculty, and staff through accurate and timely financial services.
  • Perform various accounting functions, including monthly bank account reconciliations, preparation and processing of general ledger entries, and maintaining fixed asset records.
  • Apply generally accepted accounting principles and procedures in working with specialized accounting records and reports.
  • Assemble and analyze data and transactions, prepare statements and reports relating to assigned area of responsibility.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study.
  • Ability to operate under minimal supervision, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ability to work with large data sets to create financial reports.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with bank reconciliations and cash management.
  • Prior fund accounting experience, especially in the higher education field.
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague and/or Synoptix a plus.
