Electromagnetic Interference and Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer

Vast is a pioneering company in the field of space exploration, and we are seeking a highly skilled Electromagnetic Interference and Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing the EMI-EMC team with technical leadership, grounding their decisions with experience and engineering fundamentals. They will develop EMI-EMC requirements for Vast spacecraft and components, derive and distribute EMI and in-space environmental requirements, and tailor industry standards for Vast spacecraft and missions.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, physics, or a related STEM discipline, with a minimum of 4 years of experience working in EMI/EMC/Physics-related roles. They will also have experience with software development and modeling in Matlab, Python, etc., and a deep understanding of electromagnetics, plasma effects, and triboelectric effects on spacecraft systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Enhance the EMI-EMC team with technical leadership
  • Develop EMI-EMC requirements for Vast spacecraft and components
  • Derive and distribute EMI and in-space environmental requirements
  • Tailor industry standards for Vast spacecraft and missions
  • Work directly with cross-functional teams to guide best practices for EMI-EMC design and test
  • Perform analysis and measurement on avionics sub-circuits, components, and systems to enhance our understanding of EMI-EMC performance and risk
  • Support EMI-EMC qualification test of Vast spacecraft and components
  • Contribute to a culture of extreme ownership by understanding and articulating to others how EMI relates to all subsystems and disciplines in human-rated spacecraft

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related STEM discipline
  • 4+ years of experience working in EMI/EMC/Physics-related roles

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Ms or PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or related STEM discipline
  • Experience in EMI/EMC, in-space charging for spacecraft, triboelectrification, grounding and bonding
  • Prior experience in an electronics or electrical systems design role
  • Experience with software development and modeling in Matlab, Python, etc.
  • Experience with digital communications standards such as Ethernet, RS-422, PCIe, GMII, etc
  • Experience with MIL-STD-461 compliance test (procedures, facilities, equipment, etc)
  • Deep understanding of electromagnetics, plasma effects, and triboelectric effects on spacecraft systems
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to teach people of a multitude of education and industry backgrounds about EMI-EMC

Salary Range:

California

$150,000-$180,000 USD

Base salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand. Salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package.
