Department Overview:

As a member of the Cybersecurity Software Engineering team within the MITRE Security Automation Framework (SAF), you will thrive in a collaborative environment that values mentorship and continuous learning. Our team is recognized as a leader in security automation, dedicated to establishing and promoting best practices and standards for both industry and government. We work closely with various stakeholders to develop reusable content and tools that streamline security processes, enabling rapid software development.

Key Responsibilities:

Your role will involve enhancing your practical skills in software design and development, engaging throughout the entire software engineering lifecycle with a focus on cybersecurity. You will gain exposure to:

  • Leading-edge Cybersecurity and DevSecOps practices

  • Automation of Security for Applications, Systems, and Architectures

  • Cloud Engineering Solutions

Specific duties will include:

  • Designing and architecting innovative applications
  • Communicating core SAF concepts to partner organizations
  • Translating sponsor requirements to the SAF core team
  • Balancing competing demands to deliver effective solutions across various organizations
  • Coaching and mentoring junior team members
  • Developing technical proposals for integrating SAF into development and deployment workflows
  • Serving as a subject matter expert, applying industry trends and best practices consistently
  • Leading cross-functional teams to design, build, and deploy automated systems tailored to specific business needs

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eligibility to obtain U.S. Government DoD Clearance.
  • Hands-on experience in architecting and automating cloud-native technologies.
  • Experience in provisioning IT systems using Infrastructure as Code or Infrastructure as a Service (e.g., Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, Docker).
  • Experience deploying self-managed software applications in customer environments.
  • Professional experience with software development processes, tools, and languages such as Python, Ruby, Go, Java, MySQL, MongoDB, Git.
  • Hands-on experience in building and managing CI/CD workflows and tools.
  • Experience conducting code reviews.
  • Experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and existing systems.
  • Strong communication skills regarding core DevOps concepts (CI/CD, Agile, automation).
  • A genuine desire to assist in solving critical national challenges.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Understanding of scalable computing systems, software architecture, data structures, design patterns, and algorithms.
  • Knowledge of software design patterns.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
