Department Overview:

As a member of the Cybersecurity Software Engineering team within the Security Automation Framework (SAF), you will thrive in a collaborative environment, working alongside experts in secure coding and DevOps. MITRE is recognized as a leader in security automation, committed to developing and promoting best practices and standards for both industry and government. Our team collaborates across sectors to create reusable content and tools that streamline security processes, facilitating rapid software development.

Key Responsibilities:

Your role will involve enhancing your technical skills in software design and development, participating in the complete software engineering lifecycle while focusing on cybersecurity. You will gain experience in:

  • Leading Cybersecurity and DevSecOps initiatives
  • Full-Stack Software Development
  • Automating Security for Applications, Systems, and Architectures
  • Data Analysis and Visualization Techniques
  • Container Security Practices
  • Cloud Engineering Solutions

Specific duties will include:

  • Designing and architecting software applications
  • Communicating core SAF concepts to partner organizations
  • Translating sponsor requirements to the SAF core team
  • Balancing competing needs to deliver effective solutions
  • Mentoring junior team members
  • Creating technical proposals for integrating SAF into development workflows
  • Serving as a subject matter expert on industry trends and best practices
  • Leading cross-functional teams to design, build, and deploy automated systems tailored to business needs

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eligibility to obtain U.S. Government DoD Clearance.
  • Hands-on experience in architecting and automating cloud-native technologies.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code or Infrastructure as a Service tools (e.g., Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, Docker).
  • Proficiency in deploying self-managed software applications in client environments.
  • Professional experience with software development processes and languages such as Python, Ruby, Go, Java, MySQL, MongoDB, Git.
  • Experience in building and managing CI/CD workflows and tools.
  • Experience in conducting code reviews.
  • Contributions to the architecture and design of systems, focusing on reliability and scalability.
  • Strong communication skills regarding core DevOps concepts (CI/CD, Agile, automation).
  • A deep commitment to addressing critical national challenges.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Understanding of scalable computing systems, software architecture, data structures, design patterns, and algorithms.
  • Knowledge of software design patterns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
