About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Scientist to join our Materials & Processes team at Relativity Space. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the development, characterization, and inspection of materials across our Terran R launch vehicle.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Researching, trading, and selecting conventional and novel materials and processes for various demanding applications
  • Identifying qualification criteria, test envelopes, and characterization campaigns
  • Authoring, implementing, and maintaining M&P requirements, technical specifications, and engineering work standards
  • Developing, controlling, and improving special processes
  • Driving statistically-driven experimental design and process control initiatives

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in materials science or engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience relevant to the competencies listed above
  • Commitment to accountability, collaboration, and execution
  • Desire to establish and foster strong interdisciplinary relationships across the company

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience in aerospace and launch vehicle structures, mechanisms, fluid systems, and propulsion applications
  • Thorough understanding of aluminums, Ni-based superalloys, stainless steels, titaniums, and refractories
  • Knowledge of property-process-performance-structure relationships between primary and secondary manufacturing technologies
