We are seeking a Nursing Supervisor to supervise and coordinate activities of nursing personnel in one or more patient care units. The successful candidate will verify that patients' needs are met and evaluate unit nursing care and performance. They will participate in planning work of assigned units and coordinate activities with other patient care units and related departments.

Care Delivery:

1. The Nursing Supervisor will make daily rounds to assess patient status/needs and regularly accompany physicians on rounds to patient care environments.

2. They will provide daily feedback to staff about performance and evaluate 10% of sample medical records daily to ensure staff compliance with assessment and reassessment and other required documentation.

3. The Nursing Supervisor will interact continuously with other departments to direct activities toward problem resolution and personally evaluate their shifts at least twice a month.

Staff Compliance:

1. The Nursing Supervisor will function as a resource to all staff and other departments, establishing a delivery system around the nursing process and providing care utilizing the nursing process.

2. They will coordinate efforts of emergency response teams, delegate responsibilities based on staff qualifications, and possess knowledge, experience, and competence to care for all ages of patients served.

Staff Accountability:

1. The Nursing Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day clinical management of the unit, ensuring nurse functions in accordance with legislation and common law affecting nursing practice.

2. They will maintain clinical competence in their area of expertise, responsible for KRONOS for all employees on the unit, and plan/direct/monitor quality management activities to identify and study nursing care problems and formulate solutions.

Complaint Resolution:

1. The Nursing Supervisor will investigate and respond to complaints from patients, visitors, physicians, and staff, acting on or appropriately referring all complaints.

Age-Specific Care:

1. The Nursing Supervisor will ensure the care delivery system is adapted for populations served, following departmental scope of service care according to identified populations served.

2. They will complete competency validations related to populations served, education, and training on an ongoing basis related to age-specific care, and follow appropriate policies and procedures to support care delivery for populations served.

Medication Administration:

1. The Nursing Supervisor will provide for the safe administration of all medications within the department, reviewing unit-specific medication administration practices to ensure safe techniques.

2. They will ensure appropriate control of all medications, review staff performance in compliance with administration practices, and randomly review all narcotic administration.

Strategic Management:

1. The Nursing Supervisor will collaborate with others to establish vision and values for patient care services, translating vision throughout the organization.

2. They will lead with a focus on execution, achieving high-impact across quality, services, and cost goals, assisting with analyzing information, implementing determined courses of action, and following established actionable plans.

Aligning Performance:

1. The Nursing Supervisor will build a supportive organizational structure to drive achievement of business and clinical goals, focusing and guiding others to accomplish measurable objectives.

2. They will set performance goals with success, establish approaches, create learning environments, track performance, and make improvements.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing with the completion of a BSN required, MSN preferred ARDCS or CCI certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a supervisor and acute care clinical skills.
  • Current professional nurse license issued and/or recognized by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
  • Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certification.
  • Ability to communicate in English; both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and Outlook.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills required.
  • Current regulatory knowledge (CMS and Joint Commission) and current evidence-based practice knowledge.
  • Strong experience with service excellence culture.
