Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients, including preparing patient skin for surgery and maintaining aseptic techniques.
  • Provide comfort and support to pre-operative patients and families, demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy.
  • Transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite, positioning patients according to the type of surgery.
  • Identify and care for biological specimens, and prepare the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of case.
  • Work effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient, cooperating in team planning and execution, and maintaining a safe environment by implementing technical and aseptic practices.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment, adhering to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety in all patient care situations.
  • Maintain proper traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitation policies and procedures, and demonstrate competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of the Surgical Technology program or an accredited LVN/LPN program required
  • 2 or more years of experience preferred
  • BLS required
  • Certification of Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 180 days of graduation or LVN/LPN License required
