Job Title: Concept Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative engineer to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Concept Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of advanced systems, including missiles, autonomous aerial vehicles, and submersibles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to participate in the full pipeline of system development, from conception to integration.
  • Develop and run models in various fields, including aerodynamics, mechanical design, controls, materials, and more.
  • Design and develop algorithms and constraints based on real-world limitations to enable a multi-disciplinary design process.
  • Solve multi-objective system design optimization challenges to provide sponsors with the best solutions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field with demonstrated ability in developing and executing multi-disciplinary optimization for early-phase design work.
  • General understanding of optimization techniques such as Genetic Algorithms and statistical methodologies such as Monte Carlo and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Significant experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and/or C++.
  • Background in several subject areas such as guidance, control, aerodynamics, structures, and/or propulsion.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance.
