Job Title: Principal Geotechnical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at Kleinfelder. As a key member of our Geotechnical Services group, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in geotechnical engineering design, construction support, and project management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate services with internal and external teams to deliver high-quality geotechnical engineering solutions.
  • Perform geotechnical engineering design, construction support, and oversight, as well as project management and staff support duties.
  • Ensure high client satisfaction by providing constructible designs, responsiveness to client needs, and meeting deadlines.
  • Lead diverse project teams and provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Capture business development opportunities, prepare proposals, and lead technical aspects of large pursuits.
  • Manage and mentor staff to ensure their professional growth and development.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 8 years of related experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Licensed geotechnical engineer (GE) or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Proven experience in geotechnical levee design, seepage analysis, and slope stability of embankments.
  • Proven experience in design of shallow, mat, and deep foundations, and retaining walls.
  • Proven experience providing construction support as geotechnical engineer of record.
  • Proven experience being a trusted advisor to clients of all sizes.
  • Proven experience assisting clients from design through construction.
  • Proven experience leading diverse project teams.
  • Proven experience capturing business development opportunities, preparing proposals, and leading technical aspects of large pursuits.
  • Proven experience managing and mentoring staff.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Recognized leader in the field of geotechnical engineering.
  • Ability to develop highly motivated individuals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience planning, implementing, and managing geotechnical exploration programs, including assigning laboratory testing.
  • Experience guiding staff engineers in performing material and site characterization, foundation recommendations, slope stability, and settlement analyses.
  • Experience preparing geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications for foundations and earthwork for a wide range of projects.
  • Experience supporting project managers in budget management, client updates, and general project management tasks.
  • Experience preparing and presenting technical presentations to clients and technical review boards.
  • Experience supervising field observation, testing, and performing site visits.
  • Ability to proactively troubleshoot and problem-solve with practical, client-focused solutions.
  • Ability to interface with the civil design team to develop and value-engineer practical, fit-for-use geotechnical engineering solutions.
  • Ability to organize priorities and multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate with Area leadership and Project Managers to resource delivery effectively.
  • Thirst to learn and achieve continuous improvement in a team environment.
