Position Overview

The Metal Additive Manufacturing Specialist will play a crucial role in the hands-on production of additively manufactured flight components. Adhering to established protocols, the Specialist will operate, maintain, and oversee additive manufacturing equipment while managing powder materials.

Reports to:

Senior Operations Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure that additive manufacturing operations consistently meet or surpass internal, customer, and industry quality standards.

Perform various tasks related to the setup, calibration, and upkeep of additive manufacturing machines and auxiliary equipment.

Execute support removal tasks effectively.

Safely manage powder materials throughout the additive production workflow.

Engage in and/or lead initiatives aimed at problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Maintain a clean and safe working environment, particularly concerning powder and chemical handling.

Job Duties

  • Operate additive manufacturing systems, including EOS M290, EOS M4K, SLM 280, and SLM NXG.
  • Conduct setup, operation, and routine maintenance of additive manufacturing equipment.
  • Utilize precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Propose innovative technologies and strategies to enhance additive manufacturing processes.
  • Skillfully use hand, power, and pneumatic tools for various tasks.
  • Manage powder handling tasks, including sieving, sampling, loading, and cleaning.
  • Perform self-inspections of parts and components with a strong focus on detail.
  • Monitor production builds according to a flexible schedule.
  • Ensure traceability of all powder materials and components.
  • Document testing procedures and outcomes, recommending enhancements to manufacturing and engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to devise manufacturing solutions and resolve issues.
  • Adhere to customer and industry quality standards and safety regulations regarding powder management.
  • Contribute to the implementation of operational policies and procedures across the organization.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with various hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Understanding of raw materials, production processes, quality assurance, and cost reduction techniques in additive manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with equipment and tools utilized in additive manufacturing operations, including EOS and SLM technologies.
  • Ability to evaluate performance and implement improvements.
  • Strong organizational skills for effective planning and prioritization.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in MS SharePoint and MS Office.

Education / Experience / General Requirements

PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution

PREFERRED: 2+ years of experience in Additive Manufacturing or a comparable manufacturing environment

REQUIRED: Availability to work flexible hours based on machine build schedules

REQUIRED: Compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), necessitating U.S. person status (ITAR defines "U.S. Person" as a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident)

  • Achieve proficiency in technical materials related to additive manufacturing and machine maintenance.
  • Maintain a stationary position for extended periods as necessary.
  • Effectively operate, prepare, inspect, manipulate, and position parts, tooling, and machinery.
  • Utilize digital applications on devices such as tablets or smartphones proficiently.
  • Occasionally ascend and descend ladders.
  • Adjust shelving, access stacked powder containers, and store tools by positioning oneself appropriately.
  • Communicate regularly with team members and internal stakeholders regarding daily updates, safety concerns, inquiries, and issues.
  • Identify non-conformances, inspect additively manufactured parts and machinery, assess the manufacturing process for defects, estimate powder quantities during filling, and adjust machines via graphical user interfaces.
  • Regularly lift, move, position, and stack parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently push carts, vacuums, and other equipment throughout the facility.
