1 Educational Support Specialist
COMPENSATION RANGE:
$15.57/hr - $17.30/hr (Additional compensation from the Millage initiative will be awarded annually. The amount for the school year will be determined by bargaining and ratification and will be prorated from the start of the school year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) A high school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of study at an accredited postsecondary institution; or an Associate's degree or higher; or passed a rigorous examination demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics. (2) Ability to type at a prescribed rate of speed. (3) Proficiency in computer skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Note:
Educational Support Specialists may be assigned to various programs including ESE, Basic, Vocational, Guidance, Media, or perform clerical duties as necessary to support educational initiatives.
(1) Assist educators in preparing instructional materials and equipment. (2) Support the implementation of classroom activities as directed. (3) Provide instructional assistance as coordinated by the educator or administrator. (4) Supervise students as required by the educator or administrator. (5) Perform assigned clerical and bookkeeping tasks. (6) Compile necessary data and enter it into the computer system. (7) Participate in training programs and professional development. (8) Plan and organize suitable instruction following guidelines established by the educator or administrator. (9) Employ classroom management techniques conducive to an effective learning environment. (10) Maintain a clean and organized environment for students. (11) Operate instructional equipment effectively. (12) Establish and maintain records and files pertinent to the assigned program. (13) Foster positive relationships between the school and families. (14) Communicate with families at the direction of the educator or administration. (15) Answer telephone calls, route them, and take messages as directed. (16) Serve as a substitute for the educator as needed. (17) Assist in evaluating student progress as directed. (18) Maintain confidentiality regarding student information. (19) Assist students with personal hygiene and grooming if necessary. (20) Utilize effective, positive interpersonal skills. (21) Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.VETERANS' PREFERENCE: Eligible veterans and spouses will receive preference in compliance with applicable laws.
