Position Overview: Cardiac Ultrasound Technician at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian
Compensation: Competitive hourly wage based on experience and qualifications.
The Cardiac Ultrasound Technician operates under the guidance of the technical lead and medical director, demonstrating expertise in performing level I routine ultrasound examinations in accordance with departmental standards.
- Technologists apply independent judgment and comprehensive knowledge to ensure the acquisition of high-quality diagnostic ultrasound images.
- They evaluate the technical quality of the images captured prior to submission to the interpreting radiologist.
- Patient and family education regarding the procedure is provided, along with monitoring for any changes in the patient's condition, including initiating emergency protocols when necessary.
- Precise documentation of patient data in the appropriate hospital systems is essential.
- Roles within the hospital may require on-call responsibilities and rotation to nearby imaging centers.
- Additional assigned duties may be undertaken as required.
- Specific to the Cardiology Department: On-call personnel must respond within 15 minutes, troubleshoot issues, provide off-site services as needed, and be prepared to deliver on-site assistance within 1.5 hours of notification.
Qualifications and Experience
- Must possess an Associate's degree or higher.
- Graduation from an ARDMS-accredited ultrasound program is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is preferred, although recent graduates may also be considered.
- Cardiology Department Specific: Experience with adult, neonate, and pediatric cardiac ultrasound, stress echocardiograms, TEEs, and Intra-Operative TEE is highly desirable.
Required Certifications
- BLS certification is mandatory.
- Registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in one or more specialties is required: Non-Invasive Cardiac Imaging: RDCSAE: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer – Adult Echo (RCSAE) registered, or RCS: Registered Cardiac Sonographer - Adult Echo, or eligibility for registry.
