Job Summary

The Substance Use Disorder Counselor is a vital member of the Carle Health behavioral health team, providing high-quality services to inpatients and outpatients. This role requires delivering competent and professional services aligned with institutional goals, regulatory standards, and professional ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
    • Provides evaluation, counseling, and therapeutic services to chemically dependent patients and families, assessing their social, psychological, emotional, financial, cultural problems, and chemical abuse history.
    • Makes recommendations for treatment and acts as a liaison and patient/family advocate with the treatment network.
    • Maintains open communication with referral sources, families, or others involved in the patient's treatment regarding the patient's progress, discharge plans, and aftercare plans.
  • Development & Patient Education
    • Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance clinical practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
    • Participates in community education as assigned.
    • Assesses and chooses teaching strategies and therapy modalities appropriate to the patient's and their families' age-specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn, and level of comprehension.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Addiction, Counseling, Psychology, or a similar degree required within 2 years if incumbent has or plans to pursue a LCSW, LPC, LCPC, or psychologist license.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a behavioral health, addiction, hospital setting.
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) Illinois upon hire or Licensed Professional Counselor Illinois upon hire or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Illinois upon hire or Certified Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC) IC&RC Counselor certification (CRADC, CSADC or CAADC) (IAODAPCA) within 2 years and Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA) within 30 days.
