Position Overview
Tulane University is looking for a dedicated Research Scientist II to contribute significantly to various initiatives centered around poliovirus as part of our establishment as a Poliovirus Essential Facility (PEF). This role involves assisting in the design and execution of scientific experiments, overseeing the training and deployment of personnel and students, and managing research resources within both BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct experiments utilizing both in vitro and humanized murine models to study poliovirus infection.
- Analyze experimental data and prepare findings for publication.
- Ensure the execution of scientifically rigorous research aimed at advancing the understanding and eradication of poliovirus.
- Coordinate research activities and allocate resources effectively within the laboratory environment.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Doctorate Degree in a Biological Science along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant research experience. Candidates with more than 4 years of professional research experience are preferred.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, viral vector design, DNA sequence analysis, tissue culture, and bacteriology.
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage with a diverse range of individuals within and outside the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Capability to work independently while maintaining high standards of scientific integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in authorship of high-impact publications.
- Background in working with murine models of infectious diseases.
- Specific expertise in virology, including cultivation and quantification of viruses.
