Job Description

The Department of Political Science at Ohio University is seeking a part-time, non-tenure track Instructor of Practice to teach a 1-credit hour practicum course for political science students. The successful candidate will have ten or more years of professional experience working in a political science-aligned field, such as elections and campaigns, government or government relations, public relations, or policy analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach a 1-credit hour practicum course for political science students, emphasizing career planning and networking in the United States.
  • Develop course learning outcomes, a syllabus, a list of potential guest speakers, and weekly lesson plans for the practicum course.
  • Prepare students for professional success through in-person practical instruction, the development of and preparation for networking opportunities, and connecting students' classroom experience to practical and ethical issues in the candidate's professional field.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in political science or a closely related field.
  • 10 years of professional experience working in a political science-aligned field.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who hold a graduate degree (MA or higher) in political science or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree (MA or higher) in political science or a closely related field.
  • Professional experience that does not require a JD degree.
