Job Description

Job Summary:

The Lead Cargo Handler is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of the warehouse, ensuring that all duties are carried out in a timely manner. This includes assigning staff to receive shipments, securing company equipment, and delegating tasks to cargo handlers. The successful candidate will also assist the Warehouse Supervisor in running reports and coordinating flight operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Guidance: Provides leadership and guidance to cargo handlers, expediting the movement of freight from acceptance through completion of buildup and flight preparation.
  • Cross-Training and Utilization: Follows protocol for cross-training personnel and cross-utilization based on operational demand.
  • Productivity Monitoring: Monitors productivity levels of each Cargo Handler individually and collectively.
  • Cargo Preparation: Contributes to and enforces on-time cargo preparation for on-time flight departures.
  • Equipment Safety: Enforces safe handling of company equipment and movement of cargo within the facility and Ramp.
  • Cargo Acceptance Audit: Conducts cargo acceptance audit in procedures and reports inaccuracy of cargo staging and preparation.
  • Nets Quality Inspection: Monitors Nets quality inspection and enforces compliance.
  • Scanner Accuracy: Is responsible for accuracy of the scanners and the process of palletization in order to achieve flight maximization.
  • Facility Equipment Maintenance: Maintains facility equipment and takes control of the forklift equipment's log.
  • Tie Down Process: Reviews the tie down process and the quality control aspect.
  • Weighed Process and Tagged Procedure: Enforces accuracy in the weighed process and tagged procedure.
  • Company System Management: Manages company system (ACMS, GENEVA,) for daily operation.
  • Compliance: Ensures full compliance with local government agencies and regulations.
  • Support to Warehouse Supervisor and Upper Management: Provides Support to Warehouse Supervisor and upper management.
  • Other Duties: Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Self-Starter: A self-starter is required, must be able to work effectively with minimal to no supervision.
  • Warehouse Experience: Prior warehouse experience with Fork-lift driving knowledge is mandatory.
  • Cargo/Freight Handling Experience: Prior min. 3 years of warehouse experience with cargo/freight handling is preferred.
  • Warehouse Safety Procedures: Knowledge of warehouse safety procedures.
  • Safe Lifting Procedures: Understands and utilizes safe lifting procedures and step stools.
  • Customer Service and Conflict Resolution: Prior customer service and conflict resolution experience is a plus.
  • HAZMAT Materials: Identification of HAZMAT Materials and knowledge of proper handling (Preferably).
  • Communication Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, speak, and understand English.
  • Bilingual: Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups' situations to customers, client, and other employees of the organization.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding carrying out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Computer Skills: Must be comfortable learning computerized transactions using SmartKargo or other software.
  • Driver's License: Possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a driving record from the state of your primary residence that meets Amerijet's insurance standards.

  • Work Schedule: Willingness to work 8-hr shift covering 24/7.
  • Eligibility to Work: Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
  • Warehouse Environment: Ability to work in a warehouse environment: fast pace, loud, hot, or chill.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will not have direct reports but may require providing training for new team members.

Language Skills:

The employee must possess good interpersonal and communications skills, be able to effectively present information, respond to questions from managers and co-workers.

Physical Activities and Requirements of the Position:

The employee is regularly required to stand, frequently required walk, use hand to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Required to work in confined spaces.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; move about the facility.

Must be able to work well under pressure. Domestic/International travel is negligible, and overtime is required when necessary.
