Food Processing Supervisor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Food Processing Supervisor to join our team at Michael Foods, Inc. in Norwalk, Iowa. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient production of high-quality food products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume personal responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
  • Produce high-quality products at the lowest possible cost while adhering to good manufacturing practices.
  • Provide a safe work environment for all personnel and ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Recognize and resolve operating problems to minimize their impact on operations.
  • Request and direct services from maintenance, sanitation, and other personnel as needed to achieve desired levels of production, sanitation, and safety.
  • Cooperate with all departments to ensure a coordinated work relationship.
  • Responsible for ingredient usage and other department costs.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records, including timecards, downtime records, and absentee records.
  • Enforce company policies in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Encourage employee suggestions to improve production, quality, safety, and control costs.
  • Keep operations manager informed of operating and employee problems, quality, safety, and control costs.
  • Maintain consistent communication and hold monthly department meetings.
  • Provide a safe working environment and adhere to safe work practices, follow GMPs, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality.
  • Report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety.
  • Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience, preferably in the food industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teaming skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and follow directions with little/no supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to perform multi-functional tasks.
  • Ability to work overtime and/or weekends when required.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish-English) is a plus.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations.
  • Ability to respond to questions from internal/external customers/vendors at all levels, including management.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
