MELE Associates is seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to contribute to the vital nuclear security initiatives of the Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) as a subject matter expert. The NNSA's Office of Design and Construction (NA-92) is tasked with overseeing the design and construction of significant nuclear and non-nuclear capital projects. The selected candidate will primarily focus on providing expert design and construction oversight in the Civil/Structural domain for these critical projects. This role is essential in modernizing and maintaining NNSA's intricate infrastructure, ensuring compliance with rigorous safety and security standards.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate civil and structural designs for new construction and renovation projects within NNSA facilities.
  • Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and agency regulations relevant to civil and structural engineering.
  • Actively participate in project reviews as a civil/structural engineering expert.
  • Support infrastructure assessments to verify structural integrity and safety.
  • Foster relationships with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure mechanical designs fulfill requirements.
  • Provide technical advice on civil and structural engineering issues, offering recommendations and insights on best practices and innovations.
  • Prepare and coordinate briefings and reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in civil or structural engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • In-depth knowledge of seismic analysis and design criteria for both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, along with proficiency in major national consensus codes and standards for steel and concrete structural design.
  • Experience with ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) for the design of safety-related structural systems.
  • Expertise in designing for natural hazards such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard engineering software for structural analysis.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary for project requirements and site evaluations; travel expected to be less than 25%.
  • Capability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Expertise in structural modeling and analysis software such as ANSYS and GT STRUDAL.
  • Experience with Management and Operating (M&O) contractors at DOE/NNSA sites.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is a full-time position requiring onsite presence. Telework options may be available, contingent upon the need for in-person meetings and office requirements.


SALARY: Compensation is determined based on various factors, including market data, internal equity, and the candidate's relevant skills and experience.
