Position Summary

Birdon America, Inc. is on the lookout for a Class 1 Electrician to enhance our workforce at our shipyard. This role presents an excellent opportunity to apply your expertise in a dynamic setting focused on constructing a new Coast Guard vessel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify color codes on Multi-Conductor Cables.
  • Connect Single Phase and Three Phase Motors effectively.
  • Establish connections for Single and Three Phase Transformers.
  • Understand the operation of Automatic Bus Transfer (ABT) and Manual Bus Transfer (MBT).
  • Work with AC Power Distribution systems up to 1000 Volts.
  • Parallel circuits in both AC and DC systems.
  • Connect Generators and verify phase rotation, including paralleling Generators.
  • Adjust rotation on three-phase motors as necessary.
  • Determine appropriate sizes for Motor Starters (NEMA Ratings).
  • Measure amp draw on electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot wiring and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose issues in MSLC and DSLC circuits.
  • Terminate and comprehend PLC Circuits and Motor Controllers.
  • Perform tasks typically assigned to Class 2 and Class 3 Electricians.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Marine Electrician.
  • Ability to read schematics and perform troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with basic ABS Rules and knowledge of CFRs.
  • Capable of Megger testing cables.
  • Proficient in using a Volt-Ohm Meter.
  • Must be able to lift weights up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and work in confined spaces regularly.
