Role Summary

The Semi-Trailer Technician is accountable for conducting routine inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on various trailers and associated equipment. Success in this role requires a comprehensive understanding of mechanical tools, diagnostic instruments, and a keen attention to detail. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential, along with the ability to work autonomously or collaboratively within a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical issues in trailers and related equipment.
  • Execute repairs in accordance with industry standards.
  • Perform regular maintenance on trailers and associated machinery.
  • Conduct bodywork and undercarriage repairs, including air bag replacements and tandem system adjustments.
  • Develop and document action plans for repairs, adhering to established protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring tools and equipment are regularly serviced.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and guidelines, employing common sense safety practices.
  • Work independently while also providing support to team members.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • ASE certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
  • 1-2 years of relevant mechanical experience is desirable.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment assessment to evaluate mechanical skills.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing in English for documentation purposes.
  • Possession of personal tools, safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, and hearing protection is required.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to exert up to 100 lbs of force occasionally and up to 50 lbs frequently.
  • Capability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Climbing and descending ladders and ramps as needed.
  • Stooping, crouching, and balancing as part of the job functions.
  • Kneeling and crawling as required during repairs.
  • Frequent use of hands for various tasks including gripping and typing.
  • Engaging in repetitive motions of the wrists and hands.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to hear and understand spoken information accurately.
  • Close visual acuity for reading and operating machinery.

Work Environment

The work is conducted in a shop setting, both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions and potential hazards associated with mechanical work. This includes working with moving vehicles and various tools in a potentially noisy environment.
