Position Overview
Location: SoHo NYC
The primary role of the Grocery Buyer is to manage the ordering, replenishment, and presentation of store products, while collaborating effectively with team members. The in-store buyer will oversee inventory management and restock items based on established ordering protocols. Responsibilities also include organizing promotional displays and upholding high operational standards. All roles at Happier Grocery necessitate maintaining a positive company image through courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and colleagues alike. Adherence to team and store Standard Operating Procedures is essential, and team members should be prepared to fulfill duties associated with other roles as needed. All positions are expected to uphold Happier Grocery's core values and support store initiatives while complying with all relevant health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Director of Category Management and Store Managers to write orders for all grocery categories.
- Utilize proper purchasing procedures to replenish stock.
- Order both perishable and non-perishable grocery items while maintaining adequate back stock levels.
- Monitor and address open purchase order reports for both purchases and credits promptly and accurately. Process invoices and returns as necessary.
- Analyze sales data to optimize sales performance and reduce out-of-stock situations.
- Manage spoilage and shrinkage; participate in inventory counts.
- Complete spoilage reports and other inventory management tasks, including sampling and temperature logs.
- Ensure timely and accurate product orders to maintain inventory turnover.
- Assist leadership in conducting inventory assessments.
- Maximize sales potential through effective preparation, storage, rotation, stocking, and merchandising of products.
- Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; ensure accuracy of signage and pricing.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in coolers, freezers, and back stock areas.
- Stay informed on customer purchasing trends and industry developments.
- Support corporate initiatives as required.
- Be capable of receiving deliveries.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by store or corporate leadership.
- Adhere to established procedures, including health and sanitation standards, and follow safe work practices.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of retail grocery experience or equivalent.
- Experience or interest in natural foods and products is preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of grocery products.
- Working knowledge of grocery merchandising standards.
- Ability to educate team members on product knowledge and demonstrate enthusiasm.
- Strong basic math skills.
- Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems.
- Excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate as part of a team.
- Ability to convey information clearly and respectfully to team members, customers, and vendors.
- Commitment to meeting customer service expectations in all interactions.
- Ability to follow directions and procedures; effective time management and organizational skills.
- Strong work ethic and capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- In an 8-hour workday: standing/walking for 6-8 hours.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
- Work involves bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to varying temperatures: below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
- Availability for rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate departmental needs.
