Job Title: Teacher of the Deaf

The Newark Board of Education is seeking a qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join our team. As a key member of our educational community, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  2. Provide instruction in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication methods to ensure students have equal access to the curriculum.
  3. Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure students who are deaf or hard of hearing have access to the same curriculum and opportunities as their peers.
  4. Use assistive technology and other accommodations to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing in their academic and social development.
  5. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to ensure they are informed about their child's progress and needs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) in Deaf of Hard of Hearing.
  • Current and valid teaching certificate in the appropriate subject/content area issued by the New Jersey Department of Education.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
Salary and Benefits:
  • Salary: $62,000 - $105,050.
  • Employment period: Ten (10) months.
  • Union affiliation: Newark Teacher's Union (NTU).
