Job Title: Controls Engineer

LHH is seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer to join our team in Indianapolis, IN. As a Controls Engineer, you will play a critical role in leading projects related to PLCs, HMIs, continuous improvement, and automation.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify and resolve process operating problems and machine faults, investigate equipment failures, and draft follow-up action reports.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-based machinery on the production floor and conduct appropriate follow-up on resolutions.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of equipment-related issues and contribute to the design, improvement, and implementation of automation throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Upgrade obsolete controls and programming on existing equipment, identify and repair system issues, sensors, and equipment, and program and maintain HMI at each production center/cell.
  • Contribute to the development of the organization's preventative maintenance and continuous improvement strategies and implement tools and methodologies to accelerate deliverables and improve output.
  • Coordinate with engineering and production personnel to develop a shared vision for the completion of daily engineering tasks and report on those activities.
  • Ensure that all safety objectives and legal requirements are observed for all work completed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of controls engineering experience within a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot (or complete basic programming) using Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Must have experience and an understanding of Ladder Logic.
  • Ideal candidates will have experience upgrading obsolete controls and programming.
  • Must possess the ability to read blueprints and have experience with design systems.
  • Must possess strong analytical, trouble-shooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a highly motivated, self-starter who is able to succeed with little supervision.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively work as part of a cross-functional team.
