Position Summary:

The Medical Staff Physician is responsible for delivering comprehensive primary care and managing HIV-related health issues within a clinical environment. This role involves a variety of essential duties aimed at ensuring optimal patient health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct Patient Care: Conduct thorough reviews of patient medical records, including allergies, ongoing health issues, and medication history.
  • Gather and document detailed medical histories from patients.
  • Perform physical examinations to identify symptoms and health concerns.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests to evaluate patient health and clinical needs.
  • Diagnose patient conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medications while considering patient allergies and health conditions.
  • Discuss potential side effects of treatments and medications with patients.
  • Recommend additional therapies such as physical therapy or other relevant treatments.
  • Administer vaccinations to protect against infectious diseases.
  • Promote wellness by advising patients on nutrition, hygiene, and preventive health measures.
  • Refer patients to specialists when necessary for advanced care.
  • Document patient visits meticulously, including medical history, examination findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans.

Indirect Patient Care:

  • Communicate effectively with patients and nursing staff regarding patient needs and triage.
  • Manage follow-ups for abnormal lab results and diagnostic findings.
  • Ensure medication lists are accurate and reconciled with hospital and specialist records.
  • Coordinate care with external healthcare providers.
  • Provide after-hours support as needed.

Quality Improvement:

Engage in ongoing quality management initiatives to enhance patient care standards.

Supervisory Role:

Oversee non-autonomous Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) within the clinic.

Access to Information:

The Medical Staff Physician will have comprehensive access to all patient medical records and clinical data necessary for effective patient management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
  • Specialization in HIV care is preferred but not mandatory.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in medical knowledge and practices; capable of learning and applying new skills effectively.
  • Adaptable to new technologies and proficient in using them to enhance productivity.
  • Committed to continuous professional development and knowledge sharing.
  • Skilled in problem-solving and decision-making in clinical settings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Language Proficiency:

Strong ability to interpret complex medical documents and communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.

Licensure:

Must hold a current, active, and unrestricted medical license in the relevant state.

Physical Requirements:

This role may require the physician to perform physical tasks, including sitting, standing, and lifting light objects, as part of patient care responsibilities.
