Role Overview

Complex Claims Director - Western Region

The Complex Claims Director is responsible for managing and evaluating general liability claims under moderate supervision, particularly those involving litigation. This role ensures the ongoing adjudication of claims in alignment with company standards, industry best practices, and specific client service expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and manage general liability claims related to property damage and bodily injury by investigating and collecting information to assess claim exposure; implement proactive claims handling strategies aimed at timely and cost-effective resolutions through well-structured action plans.
  • Identify the necessity for independent adjusters to gather pertinent information regarding claim exposure and oversee their associated costs.
  • Recognize and assess coverage issues; draft detailed coverage letters with supervisory oversight and analysis; engage coverage counsel when required.
  • Analyze liability and resolve claims within established evaluations. Maintain organized diaries and complete tasks within the timelines specified by departmental guidelines; ensure claim files are documented promptly and accurately with clear analyses on coverage, damages, reserves, and liability, including actionable plans for resolution. Process and settle invoices in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate vendor referrals for further investigation and/or litigation management. Calculate and assign timely and appropriate reserves; monitor reserve accuracy throughout the claim's lifecycle.
  • Refer cases as necessary to supervisors and management. Respond to requests or directives in a professional and timely manner.
  • Participate in arbitrations, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
  • Successfully complete all required state licensing examinations and continuing education obligations.

Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of experience in General Liability claims.
  • Proven experience with complex and high-exposure General Liability Bodily Injury claims.
  • Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written) along with strong negotiation abilities.
  • Advanced expertise in litigation claims management, including alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and mediation processes, particularly involving auto and general liability exposures.
  • Experience in managing cases during mediations, settlement conferences, pre-suit, post-suit, pretrial, and post-trial phases.
  • New York and/or Texas adjuster license is highly preferred.
