Job Title: Surgery Aide OR

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Surgery Aide to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. As a Surgery Aide, you will play a vital role in providing direct and indirect patient care in the Perioperative setting, ensuring a safe and clean environment for our patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform terminal cleaning of the operating room and prepare rooms for new patients.
  • Clean and re-make patient stretchers and beds, and responsible for assigned areas for restocking and cleanliness.
  • Participate in OR suite turnovers between cases.
  • Deliver specimens, labs, blood, to and from OR.
  • Transport patients as directed by a nurse.
  • Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required per policy.
  • Perform all duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BLS.
  • Good analytical and observational problem-solving skills.
  • Mathematical ability to perform calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies used in the work environment.
  • A high level of interpersonal and verbal skill and teamwork commitment to effectively function as a team member in support of all services delivered on the patient unit and to effectively communicate with patients, their families, and other hospital personnel to address customer needs.
  • Good reading, writing, and comprehension skills to understand, effectively communicate, and contribute to procedures, processes, orders, methods, and standards.
  • Physical ability to regularly (80-90% of work time) walk and stand; lift soiled linens and move equipment as necessary; assist patients in repositioning, bed to stretcher transferring, basic activities of daily living, and maintenance locomotion requiring lifting (very heavy 60+ pounds), bending, pulling, pushing, standing, and walking.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to perform routine clerical functions such as answering telephones, taking messages, and basic retrieval of computer information.
  • Demonstrates willingness to make a meaningful contribution to the work environment as evidenced through behavior and attitude.
