Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. SARA is in search of a highly skilled, driven, and experienced Buyer to facilitate procurement activities from our Colorado Springs office. This role offers the opportunity for professional growth and learning while working alongside talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on both established and new programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing procurement for electrical and mechanical components.
  • Confirming product specifications and coordinating material acquisitions for various programs.
  • Evaluating purchase requisitions for clarity, compliance, and completeness, and seeking additional information when necessary.
  • Creating final purchase orders for necessary approvals and signatures.
  • Maintaining supplier documentation and purchase order records in line with established policies and audit requirements to ensure compliance throughout procurement processes.
  • Managing procurement workflows from order placement to product receipt and invoice payment.
  • Collaborating with the supplier approval team to assist in vendor selection.
  • Utilizing Costpoint software to prepare purchase orders.
  • Ensuring all supplier documentation, including terms and conditions and NDAs, are ready prior to engagement.
  • Monitoring supplier orders and backlogs, adjusting schedules as required.
  • Modifying purchase orders for overdue shipments and outstanding orders.
  • Coordinating with the logistics team to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of materials to production sites.
  • Ensuring compliance with purchasing, storage, and transportation requirements for materials.
  • Resolving discrepancies related to purchasing, delivery, receiving, accounts payable invoices, and supplier payments.
  • Facilitating expedited materials management for shortages when necessary.
  • Coordinating vendor returns for materials that do not meet specifications upon inspection.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline (experience may substitute for education).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing or procurement.
  • Familiarity with FAR/DFAR compliance.
  • Strong understanding of CPSR regulations and government procurement processes (or ability to learn post-hire).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Windows applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work effectively in both cross-functional teams and independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical capabilities.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearance if required.
  • May involve light physical effort, including standing, sitting, and using hands, with the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Work environment is indoors, moderately quiet, clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Costpoint software.
  • Three years of experience with Procurement Policies and Procedures.

Compensation:

The salary for this position is influenced by various factors, including location, individual qualifications, and organizational requirements. The anticipated compensation range for this role is $65,000 to $75,000 annually. This estimate reflects the typical salary range for this position and is one component of SARA's total compensation package.
