Job Summary:

The City of Muskogee is seeking a highly skilled Electrical/Mechanical Inspector to join our team. As an Electrical/Mechanical Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with municipal, national, and international electrical and mechanical codes, ordinances, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect new wiring, electrical, and mechanical installations in residences, businesses, public, and other buildings to ensure conformance with established safety regulations and ordinances.
  • Interpret municipal, national, and international codes.
  • Confer with workmen and contractors regarding various problems encountered.
  • Issue final inspections to appropriate companies for authorization of electrical service.
  • Act as a non-voting member and secretary of the Muskogee Electrical Hearing and Appeals Board.
  • Report and take appropriate legal action, as necessary, on any violations concerning electrical and mechanical in City ordinances.
  • Issue City electrical and mechanical contractor, journeyman, and apprentice registrations when required.
  • Inspect job sites to check for proper registrations, licensing, and permits and ensure work is in accordance with plans and codes.
  • Review and approve new construction plans and blueprints to assure compliance with municipal codes and ordinances.
  • Coordinate specialty areas with Fire Marshals office.
  • Issue final inspections to utility companies for electric and gas services.
  • Research, study, and answer information regarding all municipal, national, and international electrical codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Serve in other inspection capacities on an as needed basis.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and have not less than three (3) years practical experience or equivalent training and shall hold a certificate issued by the examining board of the State of Oklahoma or ability to obtain certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Good knowledge of the methods and practices used in installing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of electrical and mechanical installations, equipment, and appliances.
  • Ability to diagnose defects and hazards in old and new installations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with contractors, property owners, and the public at large.
  • Ability to read and interpret all municipal electrical and mechanical codes.
