We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Patient Care Associate to join our Inpatient, Float Pool team at UMass Memorial Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support.
Key Responsibilities- Provide clear and timely communication to the RN regarding patient observations and changes.
- Participate in maintaining a safe environment and utilize interventions to de-escalate patients.
- Assist patients with daily living activities, such as personal hygiene, ambulation, meals, and nourishment.
- Assist with moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients using proper safety techniques and body mechanics.
- Perform patient safety checks, utilize fall prevention alternative devices/strategies, and follow Restraint Policy standards when caring for restrained patients.
- Take and record vital signs, measure and record patients' weights and heights, and perform EKGs, Point of Care (POC) tests, and bladder scanning.
- Collect, label, and prepare specimens for transport to the lab and perform other selected unit-specific procedures.
- Assist RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patients, obtaining equipment and supplies, helping to position patients, providing emotional support, and cleaning up equipment and supplies.
- Observe, measure, record oral food and fluid intake, refill tube feeding bags as directed, and empty and record output from various sources.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures.
- Replenish patient and unit supplies and equipment.
- Answer the telephone using appropriate telephone etiquette, take and relay messages, and utilize intra-departmental communication systems.
- Comply with center-wide policies, nursing department, and unit-based policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service programs as required or directed.
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and demonstrate use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
- Minimum of a high school education or GED.
- Current Basic Life Support or Heart Saver certification.
- Demonstrated clinical experience doing similar work in a clinical setting or other certification required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills to gather information from individuals, build relationships, and provide exceptional service to patients.
- Proven problem-solving abilities for routine situations and requests assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed.
- Ability to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations.
